Great visuals with complimentary sound-effects.
I would have rated it a tiny higher if it had been a bit more original or unconventional.
But you know, some people don't care about that. They just want a good time,
and it seems you have succeeded in that. Kudos.
I got a bit confused about how to start the game though xD
I thought ENTER was the golden standard.

Finally: please tell me who made the animations/sprites. I may want to hire them

HannesRoets responds:

Hi. I'm glad you liked the game. It's been a childhood dream to make my own game one day. So reading your feedback is just wonderfull.
The sprites are made by myself and 2 of them by my daughter wich I then animated and tweaked a bit (the red one that opens it's mouth and the red heart with green legs are the ones she did).
I'm a graphic designer but I had no prior experience in pixel art. It was a rough journey but I'm pretty proud of the end result.
Let me know if you need anything. I'm sure we can work it out.
Cheers and thanks again for playing my game and the kind feedback.

I was surprised by how short it was, then I read this was just a prototype.
It's a very much love-hate game, but I managed to beat all the levels : D

I suggest that you toss in some characters and dialogue between some levels,
to give people an incentive to push through the punishing gameplay : D
It would be outstanding if you added controller support for the final release

Best of luck!

minesy responds:

Thanks for the feedback, i'm not very good with writing dialogue but i will take that into consideration :)

I really like the art and presentation: it cuts right to the chase in a good way
without an overflow of pretentious boring dialogue that I often see in super indie games.
I really appreciate that. Would have been great though if you slowed down the
speed of the music arrow typing segments : D

FCPXAV responds:

Thanks for the feedback! The music attack arrows were one of the things i was least sure about to good to know!

It's an interesting concept and sufficiently original one,
But I assume this is supposed to be a very accessible game (casual)
because of it's simplicity? If so, it is too punishing.
The game would also be better with a few changes I'll mention now.
However, keep in mind that you don't have to listen to my feedback.
It is your vision and world, and if you feel my advice harms that, then ignore me.

- Add a number of lives instead of instant death
- Put in some few HP-spawners across the map that will infrequently send out hearts
- Make the goal of the game to collect X number of score to progress/finish
- Don't make destroyed meteors re-spawn. I've died twice from crashing into them
- Finally, if you got the budget and energy for it: change the entire setting of the game.
It doesn't make sense to pilot a spaceship that suffers from recoil and knockbacks.
My advice is to change the setting and characters to something that supports your concept

Best of luck!

SK-GamesIndie responds:

I'm very gratefull for your feedback. This is my first game and even tho it is simple, I still spent 6 months working on it. I wanted to have that kind of things too but i was losing interest because of the time it took and it was still so simple. I just wanted to finally publish it, as my previous projects never got released trying to make them perfect. But i am happy to see someone looking at my game with eye of a critic. It helps me know whats better and whats not. Unfortunately, i won't be updating this game as i started working on other game, but again, im grateful for your feedback.

Hey man : D

I assume you're tight on money since the visuals are pretty much MS Paint quality?
I can understand if so. However, you need to add sound-effects.
For that, you can use Splice. You pay a low monthly fee and can download
hundreds of great royalty-free sound effects.

The gameplay and presentation is neat. Nothing unique or groundbreaking but
well done imo. As for the visuals, if you actually CAN afford to hire artists,
then you can make a thread on Deviantart's Job Offers forum. I have hired all my artists there and it's wonderful. Most there deliver professional commercial quality,
and various artists have various price range. Some might even suit your budgetary limits.

Good music, I like it : D one suggestion is, if not offering the player a volume setting,
reduce the music volume in the game engine and make voices (if hiring actors)
and sound-effects louder and more in focus.

Best of luck man and you can keep in touch with me here via messages if you like

Skeeall responds:

Thanks for the feedback, I’m a 16 year old developer so yeah my budget for this game was practically zero, and I tried my best on the characters, also I didn’t make the music but I credited the artists in the credits screen

Nothing new or groundbreaking, but that's OK.
Most people probably don't look for that and only want a good time : D

About the controls: I'd say it's always good to have multiple buttons
for something, so the player can pick which one is most comfortable and ergonomic.
An example would be to have the option to shoot with spacebar,
and leave the mouse for movement exclusively

Best of luck man :D
